how readers observe black achievement in cinema (and in America) to a
diurnal diet of predictable attitudes: blacks are seen as curiosities,
as subjects bound by society’s limit, as intellectual cannon fodder. The
Times’ list is so full of patronizing liberal whoppers that it demands
an informed response, one that’s not from on high or hiding its
authoritarianism behind liberal good intentions.
